GHATOF AGENDA 2026-2030
This proposal outlines the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF) Strategic Agenda for 2026. The GHATOF Agenda represents a revitalized initiative by the Federation to adopt a proactive approach and address critical strategic priorities aimed at advancing Ghana’s tourism sector, strengthening the economy, promoting environmental sustainability, and improving public health.
Our objectives are centered on four (4) main projects, which serve as our primary strategic pillars, namely:
The GHATOF Plastics Pollution Prevention Project
One of the primary initiatives under the GHATOF Agenda is the Plastics Pollution Prevention Initiative (PPP), which seeks to eliminate single-use plastics (SUPs) within Ghana’s hospitality and tourism sector by 2030. The project also addresses the increasing challenge of microplastics(MPs) pollution and contamination.
The GHATOF Customer Service Certification Project
Ghanaian businesses struggle with issues in workforce quality, professionalism, service
standards, and human capacity development. These constraints have far-reaching effects on
business productivity and the nation’s economy.
The GHATOF Clean Cookstoves for Sustainable Tourism Project
The problems associated with Ghanaian reliance on traditional fuels such as firewood and
charcoal stoves is still widespread, with roughly 77% of Ghanaian households still using these
primary fuels like charcoal. This heavy dependency has led to serious consequences, including a dramatic 70% reduction in forest cover over the past 40 years. Beyond deforestation and environmental concerns, using these fuels also poses health risks; household air pollution (HAP)causes thousands of premature deaths in Ghana every year.
Linking Transport Challenges Affecting Tourism Project
Ghana’s rapidly growing tourism sector relies heavily on efficient transportation for visitor
mobility, safety, and affordability. The GHATOF’s “Linking Transport Challenges Affecting
Tourism” Project seeks to address transport issues by connecting improvements in mass transit with tourism development. It is evident that tourism depends on accessible and reliable travel, allowing tourists to move safely and comfortably between airports, hotels, cities, and attractions.
